Batam : The None-vacation VacationIt wasn't really a vacation since the main objective of being in Batam is actualy to go to my friend's wedding party. But then we (it's me and a friend of mine) planned to stay couple days longer just to reward ourselves for being such a good friend who would come this far for a wedding party.. ha-ha.
We went off by the earliest flight from PKU. I brought along my enormous travel bag for no reason (but in the end the bag has helped me pretty much). And as soon as I arrived, I swore to God that Batam was MY GOD! the hotest of all, the weather I mean. It was like the neighbour city of Hell.. hyperbolicly speaking OR honestly speaking for that matter. I was totally TOASTED!
(Oh, and lesson learned... Do Not Eat Your Ice Cream Outside in Batam unless you want a Melt Cream!!)
We stayed in quite charming, yet too open cabanna (it's actualy a honeymoon suite) in Harris Resort. The resort's almost an hour drive from the airport, but I have to say that I enjoyed the journey really. It's simply because the car has an aircon I guess, PLUS Batam has this view that I really enjoy watching. Reservoirs, hills and seaside.
Our unplanned day-tour started by visiting this famous landmark...The Barelang, the six famous bridges. Well, it was crowded, hot and all. But I managed to capture several shots from one bridge to the other. Not that good though.

Innitialy we planned to have a sunset moment at this spot. But it was too darn hot and we're too hungry to wait 2 hours long, so. We took off.
We climbed up the hill, to Uma Hill near Nagoya area right before the rain poured down. It was intense afternoon almost sunset. I loved the color of the sky.
In the evening, we went hunting for Batam delicacy : Gong-Gong Snail (well.. whatever that is). The driver took us to harbour front area and there're vast restaurants by seaside.. but Mr.Quiet, our driver suggested to taste the best seafood restaurant in the city. He said the real fresh seafood paradise was in Bengkong. Then we rolled along the road to Bengkong!
The next day, we went shoping and well.. shoping. I'm not really a shopaholic or anything but I did shop quite alot (I bought junk to be honest). I managed to buy couple of nice scent perfumes, a purse for my grandmother and banana cakes.
The rest of the evening was just us and the famous Gong-Gong Snail with sour refreshing sauce, black pepper King Crab, seared shrimps, sauted water spinach and.. yes, I ate that much.
My huge travel bag fully filled. And I definetely have to buy bigger bag and go to Batam again (it's a maybe). And maybe next time I'll bring Al Gore along so that he can feel the real Batam's Global (not warming) broiling.
As for the newly weds...

Congrats guys!
